Sensiva allows you to execute commands in all of your software applications by drawing simple symbols with any pointing device. You no longer need to use inconsistent hot keys and menus across different applications. Just draw the same symbols for the same actions everywhere and take total control of your applications!
Tired of entering hot-key commands and scrolling through application menu bars? Using a free, downloadable utility from Sensiva, you can quickly execute menu commands and launch applications with a simple mouse motion, without ever touching your keyboard.
When launched, Sensiva displays a context-sensitive menu of commands. (If you're working in Microsoft Word, for example, the Sensiva menu displays Save, Cut, Paste, and 16 other Word commands.) Next to each command is a symbol. To execute the command, you simply hold down the right-mouse button and draw the associated symbol with your mouse cursor anywhere on your screen. You can customize actions and even create your own symbols.
Sensiva claims to work with all applications--you can download application-specific plug-ins from the developer's Web site and add them at will. The program automatically launches the appropriate plug-in for the application you're working in.
For launching applications, Sensiva has default symbols for launching specific apps: When you draw an "E" on the Windows desktop, for example, Sensiva launches Microsoft Excel.
Unfortunately, if you want to add a lot of new commands, your choices of symbols will quickly run out. Sensiva lets you create symbols from scratch, but doing so can be tricky. Despite numerous attempts, for example, I wasn't able to create a symbol with more than two lines.
Users can set several preferences, including which mouse button will do the drawing, the program's recognition sensitivity, and the sounds associated with each symbol. One small glitch: The tabs in the Preference window are difficult to read.
Sensiva probably won't revolutionize the way you work. But if you're a visually oriented person who has trouble remembering hot-keys or doesn't like the clutter of desktop shortcuts, it's a fun, functional option.

Say It With Symbols
Many of Sensiva's default symbols are associated with hot-key sequences--when you draw an "S," for example, Sensiva executes the Ctrl-S sequence. If a command doesn't have a pre-existing hot-key sequence, you can use the underlined letters that appear in that command's menu selection as the Sensiva symbol. For example, to execute Save As in Word, you'd need to use the letters FA--the "F" directs Sensiva to the File menu, and the "A" selects the Save As menu entry. You can also add commands to the Sensiva repertoire. I added the symbol "T" to open the Thesaurus in Word. I simply typed Shift-F7 in the appropriate field and chose an unassigned symbol from Sensiva's file. For launching applications, Sensiva has default symbols for launching specific apps: When you draw an "E" on the Windows desktop, for example, Sensiva launches Microsoft Excel.
